Study of Social Media Activity on California's Proposition 29

Abstract

The Health Media Collaboratory, under the direction of Dr. Emery, has been collecting text data from social media sources (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, WordPress, and other social networking and blog platforms) since December 2011 using customized cloud-based analytic software. In August 2012 the HMC obtained access to a retrospective archive of data from the microblog platform Twitter via the GNIP Power Track firehose. Using these resources, the Collaboratory will access, manage, and analyze data from social media messages, posts, etc. related to California Proposition 29 sent or posted January through June 2012.
