Jonathan D. Klein, MD, MPH

Professor of Pediatrics

Dr. Jonathan D. Klein is professor and executive vice head of the Department of Pediatrics in the UIC College of Medicine. He is a practicing physician in UI Health and conducts research at the Institute for Health Research and Policy.

Dr. Klein specializes in adolescent medicine, focusing on preventive health services, including smoking cessation, eating disorders, and public health programs. He is scientific director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Julius B. Richmond Center of Excellence, a national center dedicated to preventing children's exposure to tobacco and secondhand smoke.

From 2009 until 2017, he was the associate executive director of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Prior to 2009, he was on the faculty of the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

Dr. Klein completed his medical degree at New Jersey Medical School, a residency in pediatrics at Boston Floating Hospital, New England Medical Center, and a fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
