Kim, Yoonsang. (2015, March 10). Simple "Machines" for Learning and Predicting [PDF of PowerPoint slides]. Institute for Health Research and Policy, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Data mining and predictive analytics are getting attention thanks to "Big Data". In this talk, you will learn from the data in hand how to make predictions with given information, using basic machine learning classifiers: logistic regression, naïve bayes, and support vector machines. This talk will also cover how unstructured text data are analyzed using these methods.

Chen, Yi-Fan. (2015, Jan. 13) Statistical Getting Started with Latent Class Analysis (LCA) [PDF of PowerPoint slides]. Institute for Health Research and Policy, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Latent class analysis is commonly used to find subtypes in data sets, and its use in behavioral and medical studies is increasing. We will examine the mechanism of this analysis and its distinction from other types, and demonstrate a simple example in R software.
