Professional Development: Pre-Analysis Plans

DuBois, David. (2017, Oct. 18). Pre-Analysis Plans [PDF of PowerPoint slides]. Institute for Health Research and Policy, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Pre-analysis plans have become an increasingly common feature of studies in numerous disciplines. By setting out in advance of data collection exactly the analyses that will be conducted and with which variables, a pre-analysis plan may help to minimize various threats to statistical conclusion validity (e.g., p-hacking) and discourage selective reporting of outcomes.

In this session, Dr. David DuBois reviewed a checklist for a pre-analysis plan and illustrated a plan developed for an actual study.
