Chalk Talk: CART, Classification and Regression Trees

Pugach, Oksana. (2013, Nov. 12). What You Need to Know about CART, Classification and Regression Trees [PDF of Word document]. Institute for Health Research and Policy, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Classification and regression trees are machine-learning methods for constructing prediction models from data. The models are obtained by recursively partitioning the data space and fitting a simple prediction model within each partition. As a result, the partitioning can be represented graphically as a decision tree.

MRC Chalk Talks are informal educational seminars about current methodological issues hosted by the IHRP Methodology Research Core, usually held on the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m.

Health researchers at all levels of experience, including postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students designing their own studies, are welcome.
