Translating Strong for Life into the Community Care Program

Abstract

This pilot study will test the translation of SFL for CCP clients using two types of trainers: homemakers and family caregivers. The specific aims are to:

  1. Recruit CCP homemakers, and client and family caregiver pairs to participate in an RCT testing implementation of SFL using homemakers or family caregivers.
  2. Randomly assign consenting client/caregiver paii^s to either a homemaker trainer group, an informal family caregiver trainer group or a health education only control group. Train homemakers and family caregivers to deliver SFL in clients' homes.
  3. Examine differences between trainers in a.)completing SFL training and implementing the SFL exercise program and b.) level of exercise participation among CCP clients.
  4. Examine health outcomes among CCP clients in each of the study groups at baseline, three and six months.

To accomplish this work, Dr. Prohaska is working with Caryn Etkin, PhD, MPH, adjunct professor of Community Health Sciences.
