Roy Wada, PhD
Senior Research Specialist
Roy Wada, PhD, is a senior research specialist and investigator in IHRP's Health Policy Center.
Previously he served as assistant researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was trained as a Ruth L. Kirschstein-NRSA postdoctoral fellow, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, at RAND and UCLA from 2007-2008.
Dr. Wada received his doctorate in economics from Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Dr. Wada's research focuses on health and employment effects of food, beverage, and tobacco taxation, and environmental determinants of childhood health. He is currently involved in research projects investigating the effects of tobacco control policies and graphic warning labels on tobacco consumption, the correlates of demands for e-cigarettes and nicotine replacement products, the association of sugar-sweetened beverage taxes and the influence of television with children's dietary habits and obesity outcomes. His past projects include examining Medicare valuation of physician services, the effect of food price on childhood obesity, and the relationship between wages and body composition.
