Daniel R. Taber, PhD, MPH

Assistant Professor of Health Promotion & Behavioral Sciences, UT Health

Dr. Dan Taber is an assistant professor of health promotion and behavioral sciences in the Michael & Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living on the Austin campus of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. He studies the effects of school-based policies on diet, physical activity, and weight status among adolescents, with a particular focus on analyzing racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in policy effectiveness. He is expanding his research to examine how school-based policy effects are modified by economic and contextual factors outside of school. His long-term goal is to apply system dynamics methods to simulate the effects of policies of adolescent obesity.

Dr. Taber was a postdoctoral research associate in IHRP's Health Policy Center from 2010 to 2013, working as an investigator on the Bridging the Gap research team and on his own research with support from an NIH career development (K) grant. He continues to publish research with his BTG colleagues. Dr. Taber earned his doctorate in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010, his MPH in Health Services from the University of Washington, and his BA from Pomona College.
