Prevention Research Training Program - Faculty
The director of the Prevention Research Training Program is Robin Mermelstein, PhD, professor of psychology, clinical professor of community sciences and director of the UIC Institute for Health Research Policy. Dr. Mermelstein has conducted research in health behaviors for 20 years. She was named Outstanding Mentor by the Society of Behavior Medicine in 2006.
UIC faculty have a large number of research projects on the etiology and prevention of health-compromising behaviors, many with disadvantaged and minority youth and their families, schools, and communities. Faculty participating in the training program are from multiple disciplines, primarily from six units within UIC:
- Institute for Health Research and Policy
- School of Public Health: Divisions of Health Policy and Administration, Community Health Sciences, and Epidemiology/Biostatistics
- College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: Departments of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice
- College of Medicine: Department of Psychiatry, including the Institute for Juvenile Research
- College of Nursing
- College of Education
Other faculty and trainees in the program are affiliated with the College of Allied Health Professions, the College of Business Administration, and the School of Social Work. Trainees participate with prevention interventionists and researchers from collaborating community programs.
