About the Health Promotion Research Program
The Health Promotion Research Program focuses on interventions to reduce risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease through primary treatment and prevention studies of obesity. The program conducts randomized trials to understand the mechanisms that promote healthy lifestyles, focusing primarily on African American and Latino populations, who are disproportionately affected by these chronic diseases. The program aims to develop culturally competent interventions for both children and adults in these populations.
The program's researchers also explore how low literacy and social support affects individuals' short- and long-term health practices, such as one's decision to change exercise patterns and diet or to pursue health screening.
