About the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research

Specific goals of the CPR include:

  • To conduct research on the costs and consequences of the therapeutic use of drugs, of pharmacy and health care services, and of medication use policy.
  • To publish and disseminate research findings so as to advance knowledge and facilitate the health of patients, organizations, and society.
  • To provide professional, graduate, post-graduate, and continuing education and training programs to promote future advances in this area of research.
  • To provide a source of expertise and assistance to UIC, the community, the pharmaceutical industry, health care provider organizations, the profession, and others on matters of research and knowledge in this field.
  • To facilitate collaborative partnerships between academia and provider organizations, manufactures, professional organizations, and others to promote advances in this area of research.

The Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research is home to the Chicago Area DEcIDE (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions about Effectiveness) Center, one of 13 centers in a national network funded by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research to perform accelerated clinical effectiveness and outcomes research that aims to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children Health Insurance (SCHIP) programs.

CPR faculty are also investigators in the recently funded Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERT) at the UIC College of Pharmacy.

CPR promotes the advancement of research by supporting the development of new investigators in pharmacoeconomic outcomes research.  The center trains four post-doctoral fellows annually for preparation for research careers in academia, pharmaceutical industry, and managed care.  For more information about this training program, visit our College of Pharmacy website.
